How low with just new coils??
Hello all. My 70 GMC needs new coils, and I would like to lower it a little. Since I use the truck daily over lousy Saskatchewan roads, I cannot drop the truck too much. I was wondering if buying 2 inch drop coils would mess up my suspension much? Do all drops require drop spindles as well? The truck IMO would look better sitting level, so what should I use? 1-2, 1-3, 2-4?
Any opinions are welcome. Thanks.

From what I understand from other members 3/4 is a good match for a spring drop. That's what I plan on going with - though I plan on installing spindles down the road.

You can go 2 up front and 4 out back with just drop coils. You will need an adjustable pan hard bar for the rear if you decide to go 4" in the rear tho. If you wanted to drop the front and rear both by 2", you could buy 2" drop coils for the front or just cut the exixting coild down by 1 coil. The rear, you can install some drop blocks that will bring your rear end down 2 inches and all you need to use is 2" square tubing and some longer U bolts. I am going the way of cutting the front coils and installing lowering blocks on my 72. I replaced my shocks and coils with variable load factory type coils a could years ago and they have a great ride to them. Hope this helps!!

This past weekend I did a 2 inch drop in front and 4 inch drop in the rear. I'm very happy with how it turned out. I used bell tech coils all the way around. Let us know how yours turns out...

I did a 6" rear spring drop on my trailing arm setup.
You need an adj trackbar and shock relocators with any rear drop. One thing that has been posted here a few times, if you replace worn front springs with 2" front drop springs, you will see a minimal change if any at all. |

My 70 is dropped about 4.5 with coils and I consider it to be alomost undriveable. The frontend bottoms out regularly and it handles terribly. I would not recomend it under any circumstances.
I will be replacing it with 2" drop coils and 2.5 drop spindles sometime soon.
