Aluminum intake
I am wanting to put on an after market intake. My question is do you think I can do it or should I take it to a mechanic? I am learning as I go with the truck.
Jobs I have done installed msd dist. installed cut to fit plug wires. installed new heater core installed headers installed new valve covers installed new alt. and battery So do you think I could handle installing a new intake? Thanks

with your's being a 76' i would say for sure go for it and do it yourself. sould be very simple. only thing you should watch out on is making sure you toruqe the intake down the currect ft/lbs and in the correct sequence.
what kinda intake are you looking at putting on? |

hey make sure you use thread sealant or something on the bolts because if not oil will come through

Yeah squirt silocone in the two center bolts or oil will seep up. Also dont use the gaskets that cover the front and end rail Just use silocone The rubber gaskets get old and blow out eventually . Silocone has to be scraped off.

I used GM Teflon thread sealant on the manifold bolt threads after cleaning them up with a wire brush to get rid of the dry, old factory sealant.

If you changed the distributor & got through it ok, Id say that would be the toughest part of an intake swap. Dont forget to stuff rags down in the heads when you scrape the old gaskets off. Good luck with your swap...corn

A wire cup wheel on a die grinder or a drill also helps to clean off old stuck gasket

I find the best thing for cleaning old gasket off is a die-grinder and a rubber or plasitc cleaning wheel, im not sure what they are called but we use them all the time at work and they are awsome!
