Gas Gauge Voltage?
My gas guage is currently not working.... I am goin to pull the dash apart tonight, and need to know what kinda voltage the termanils should be reading at full and empty, does anyone know what they should be or where I would find em?
Thanks

The guage itself recieves 12 volts and a ground, the sensing wire would have nearly 0 volts while the tank is empty, and almost 12 volts when the tank is full. All this assumes the guage is still in the circuit when you are making the measurements. The guage itself works on current flow through the sending unit, not specifically voltage. Have you tried grounding the sending unit wire with the ignition turned on? With the wire grounded the guage should read ampty and with it disconnected, it should peg. Good luck.

ok... figured out the terminals and everything , did the grounding wire thing... now what? It pegs and goes to empty, but stays pegged when you take the wire off and start the truck. Whats next? Oh, and the guage goes past full and empty on each side when you do it....
??? Thanks

Sounds like the guage itself is working fine. Check the sending unit(s) for the correct resistance (90 Ohm full, 0 Ohm empty) Also check to make sure the fuel tank ground is connected and clean. Does your truck have dual tanks? If so, also check the connections on the selector valve.

had dual tanks, they were gone before i got the truck, and i tore the selector out, but it stopped working before that....
do i have to pull the tank to check the resistance on the sending unit? someone help! lol right now I need a jerry can in the box for when I run out... lol
