I'm about to spend some big bucks on bedwood. I'm planning on using oak and stainless. Where have you guys been getting yours? Any other advice? Thanks

I've got all the planks already. We built our kitchen using wood from an old deck, and have a bunch of the pine wood left over in planks 12' long, and about 1" thick X14" wide.

Lowes. Used composite deck boards. Lifetime guarantee and they look good with the polished stainless strips.

Got mine from Chevy Duty. Beautiful Oak. Finish sand and spar-varnish and it looks GREAT !

Made mine myself out of Red Oak planks. Turned out mighty fine if I do say so myself. Cost me about $30-$40 total.

Not trying to get off topic here, but Mudder67, how is your toolbox attached to the truck? Throught the front of the bed, or through the wood.....or not at all? I need to install a small box in mine and can't decide on how to screw it down.

Its bolted to the floor. Also so that water will drain out faster I drilled some holes in the front corners.

I have Teak on order for my bed, one of my flyfishing guys owns a teak importing shop in Washington. NOT CHEAP!!! but it is clear of knots, and should look sweet!!!!

not off the subject but I cut the boards on a stepside and on a fleetside from red oak using gmc pauls measurements, and they are off about a half inch per board width! The strips have a 1/4 inch gap on each side of the strip!

ed455...are you referring to the recycled plastic stuff?...i dont have a wood bed but always thought that the plastic stuff would probably hold up better than wood...any pics if thats what you used?

I may be wrong but I think that gap is intentional to allow for expansion and contraction of the wood.

I checked Home Depot and they only come 6" wide, I need 7 1/2". Does anyone sell 8" wide stock?

I used the 6" and added one extra bed strip. It came out perfect but I had to redrill the holes in the supports.

How did you cut the groves for the strips? I have been thinking about making boards for one of mine, just not sure to try it on the table saw with a dado blade or to do them with a router.
