Shock Removal - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

OK, I bought 4 new shocks and got under "the beast". I clearly see a bolt and nut to remove the lower mounting of the front shock. On top, it appears a little different. How does the upper part of the shock get removed? It appears to be a headed pin.....I don't see anything to "remove" to pull the shock off of the pin.

Share some experience with me please !

There should be a nut on the inside of the frame that you can remove. Your new shocks should come with studs to replace the pin.

The new shocks didn't come with anything other than the shock. Do I need to find new pins for the top of the new shocks?

You will need pins. I believe that I have a couple of extra ones, (new). If I do I will send you them for $2 including shipping. PM me if interested.

Well, I feel pretty stupid. There was a plastic bag with the pins/bolts/washers in each shock box. They were stuck in the end of the box I didn't open and were being held there by the adhesive used to close the ends of the box. After taking the shock out the box still felt heavy on the end I didn't open.

Tighten the crap out of them. Use a big breaker bar to cinch them down big time.

Lots of times, they get loose and wallow out the holes in the frame, causing a lot of damage.

Sounds like you are all set! I want to echo what Tx firefighter mentioned as that is good advice. The large inside nut should be tight!
