prevent engine rotation
I'm trying to torque the damper into place... I've only got 1/16" left to go but the crank is spinning now (at about 55 lb/ft). I put in the spark plugs which helped a bit but I e\need to keep the crank from turning - what's the technique??

I have used a screwdriver wedged inbetween the teeth of the flexplate and the block.
Never had any problems that way, although it might not be an acceptable practice.  Dan |

Shove a looong flat head inbetween the torque converter and fle plate. Let it turn untill it smacks the bellhousing...it won't move any more.
Just remember to remove it before starting engine. |

 MAC & SNAP-ON BOTH MAKE TOOLS TO TURN FLYWHEELS & FLEXPLATES. THEY WONT DAMAGE THE TEETH OR BEND THE FLEXPLATES. THE TOP ONE IS A MAC & THE BOTTOM ONE IS A SNAP-ON .  JOHN

In the end I just put a C-clamp on the flexplate and that did the trick.

Large vise grips will do the job nicely as well.Clamp them on the flexplate,and torque away.

Who needs a torque wrench??? They are just play toys for girls! Get your impact wrench & tighten until you can't tighten any further. The bolt heads will pop right off when they are properly torqued.
