Swapping truck beds
I was running around yesterday and saw a 73-87 short bed truck with a 88(or later) stepside bed on it and it looked good. This made me wonder if it took a lot to swap it out or if it was easy.
I have an 85 long bed and I wonder if I can put a later model 8 ft bed on it. Has anyone out there tried to do this? If so, what kind of problems will I have to deal with? Trying to find a earlier bed without rust around here is tough or expensive. If a later model one would work, there is a better chance of getting one. Any advise? Pictures?

I don't think the lines would even be close, if it would bolt up at all.

My uncle did this with his truck and I think it lookes like crap. He did it mainly because he couldnt find a bed and it is just a farm truck. I dont think it took much to change it but the body lines dont come close.

you've got a vigin longbed, why would you wanna do that?
the lines arent even close to matching up. if your 85 were a 67-72 and the bed was a stepside, i could see it working. |

The stepside beds look good because they dont have to follow the lines of the cab. The regular beds are too rounded for the 73-87 cabs.
