Depends on the temp outside. If it is under the upper-50's, I have to pump, choke, cuss, beat, bang and then usually end up "SPRAYING" it.

The mud blazer on the other hand tires out your foot if its cold outside or has been sitting for awhile

The GMC was a one pump before it surned into a milk shake machine...the caddy bieleve it or not is a 2 pump, even though it sits so much, it'll still fire on 2 pumps.
I tried pumpin the Town Car the other day....it wouldn't start for 2 hrs after that.

2 for me

i do the "key on, let electric fuel pump do it's thing for 1-2 seocnds, then crank while giving 2 pumps" dance every morning! if i dont get it in that first shot, better pull out the battery jump pack...piece of $#!& Delco battery! once it's warm, no pumps! twist the key and she goes!

I loose track between all the pumping, then getting out and pouring gas down it's throat, then cranking and pumping some more, then getting jumper cables hooked up, then more gas, then more pumping and cranking. Once it's primed and running, it doesn't take any pumps, just turn the key.

yes, I know the carb needs a rebuild, but it sure is a good theft deterent! :p

I always pump mine about 5 times then crank it up and keep my foot in it to warm it up. I have a manual choke carb but I don't have the choke hooked up. When it starts to get colder I'll probably have to use it.

2 Pumps here usually cause of it sitting overnight...but once it's ran for 15 minutes or more in the same day it starts without a pump there after.

once. then crank for 5 seconds on the olds, and it fires right up

on teh truck, depends on it's mood. if it's good, pull the choke, don't hit the gas, hit the key and 2 cranks and it fires...otherwise, don't hit the choke at all, floor it and crank and it'll fire.

My truck sits for 2-3 weeks at a time before driving it, and the electric choke is still in summer mode, so it takes about 20 for me to get it running. A few half way down pumps, then crank the engine, pump some more, stop cranking, maybe 5 to the floor, crank and feather it some more, then a few more to the floor and it starts and runs perfect.

But back when it was a DD in the cold morings it would take maybe 2 to the floor and it would fire right to life. Once i had been driving it, i just pushed the pedal down a slight bit and it fired right up.

One, just enough to set the choke. If it's much below freezing, it'll run for a few seconds and die - then hit the starter once more (not the throttle) and it's off & runnin'.

Both My Trucks Start With One pump My 72 doesent even have a choke tower starts up great and runs fine yearround. The 85 has electric choke and a rebuilt Q-jet It idles high untill its warm and acts just like it should.

On anything with choke you really otta push the pedal at least once so the fast idle cam will engage .

Truck: haven't had it long enough to know, still a pain in the A@@ to get started.
81 Z28, 2 pumps. Sits for weeks at a time, and this works every time. After having driven it, just touch the key, it fires right up.

1 Pump. My 71 402 starts faster than just about anything else I have including my 00 Jimmy and 99 Regal. Back in the late 70s when I lived back east there were some cold days when the Chevy was the only vehicle that would start.

Depends on my engine temp... the 454 doesn't like colder engine temps than 45 or so too well. If it's 45+, then I just turn the key and let it crank for several seconds until it starts to fire then I give it a little gas to get it going, then give a few small revs to make sure it stays running. If it's gonna be cool or cold, I usually have it plugged in (hose heater), and it starts almost right away. If the engine temp is in the 30's or below... it's a b!tch to start. Pumping it doesn't help, just floods it... I need to get my choke working correctly before it gets TOO cold...

Of course I just ordered a new harmonic balancer and as soon as I install that I need to get it timed correctly. Then fix the choke and tune the carb. Then hopefully I'll be ready to burn off those old tires of mine....
