tranny for 327
Here's a question.....I am putting a 327 into the old 49 chevy. Which tranny would be good to use?? I have found a 350 turbo with overdrive which is in a truck attached to a 305 motor. I was told by a friend that the auto tranny that came in the 88 chev s-10 with a 2.8 liter v-6 which I have would work ?? Dont know about that one though. Any help would be nice thanks

If you have a overdrive trans then its not a TH350.
What would bolt up to the 327 is a 700R4 from A SBC or a 4.3L. A 2.8L has a different bolt battern Its a 60 degree V6 where as 4.3L is a 90 degree V6 Which is the same as the V8. If its an overdrive trans connected to the 2.8L odds are its a 200R4. This is still a good trans although bolting it to a 350 would requite other adaptors that may make it cost prohibitive. Hope this helps. |

The 700r4 would be a good swap. The overdrive will greatly improve MPG.

One of my grandpa's has a s-10 with a 2.8. And Denny is right, the bolt pattern is different. Your friend was probally thinking about the auto's that come with the 4.3, instead of the 2.8.

thanks...I'll go with the 700r4...not a bad deal trading the 200,000 mile plus 2.8 and it's trans for the 700r4 with 80,000 miles on it

With a 700r4, have at least 3:73 gears. Anything higher may rob you of mpg.
