Canadian members -Need opinions on value of my 72 - Selling it

Need some canadian dollar estimates of what I should ask for my 72 Chev. It is freshly painted, with new cab corners, and all original panels. Specs are below in my signature, fairly high option truck. It is not a show truck, but is probably a 3 on the Barrett Jackson scale. Here are a few pics. Estimates would be appreciated. I will be selling anytime between now and spring.

My guess just looking at it would be in the 7k range. The schools of thought vary with stock vs aftermarket. Buyers have their own preferences. It is very nicely done(by the pictures any way). There is an appraiser that lives just south of the city. If you like I can try to dig up his card and post his number for you. He should more of an insight into the market than I am.

I think that the Canadian market is very weak right now in regards to classic automobiles. The R.M. fall auction in Toronto last month was very disapointing, prices where very low. If you are really serious about selling it I would try and advertise across the border, but with the way that our dollar is picking up speed that probably won't work for long either. Hopefully in the spring the market will pick up. I know that over the past few weeks we have sold a few cars that we have sat on for the summer for full market value so go figure. That is a very nice truck though. Have you had it appraised lately?

Wow - beautiful truck. You're in Alberta, where I'd say you have the best market in Canada for a truck like yours. To me $7000 sounds low for a truck that is in this kind of condition - heck, you have AIR! I'd say at least $12,000 is a justifiable price for the truck, but like always, you have to have a buyer! (I'm thinking in Canadian $)

Truck Price

I live in Saskatoon and have been buying and selling and appraising vehicles vehicles for 25 years. I have a Pink & White 72 Custom/Deluxe that like yours is a 3 using the Barrett Jackson scale. I bought it in 2001 and paid 8000.00 for it. It has a blueprinted 396/350 from a 68 Chevelle which for me was a bonus as I would have paid the 8000. for it with a small block. I bought this truck after 4 or 5 years of searching and research. i looked at rusty trucks for 2000 to 3000 and figured they'd cost to much to get em where I wanted them. I looked at 8000. to 14000. trucks but figured that was too much for what was there. Your truck is very nice and can be used and driven proudly right away. Most of the tough work is done and whoever buys it should pay for that. I think your truck is worth 12,000CDN. Unless you need the money I'd hold out for near that amount as theses trucks are gaining popularity all the time. You are in the right spot to sell it to with Alberta having the booming economy and no debt so people have money there. If you are not in a hurry spend a couple of bucks and advertise it properly. I found a site called www.greatcarsandtrucks.com where your ad can stay on till your vehicle is sold inlike the Auto Trader where it cost 75.00 for just 2 weeks. Another (though USA based) is www.cars-on-line.com.. It also lets you leave the ad on till your vehicle sells. I put a car on there last year and got a call from someone who found my ad and he lived right here in Saskatoon. He called me when he found the ad and we did the deal in an hour.. I am attaching sone pics of my truck as it was when I bought it in 2001.

I'd say 10k + for that truck. I dunno how down in cowtown, but here in etown, those 67-72 trucks are worth a ton. There is a guy down the road trying to sell a rotted out longhorn for 4 grand!

Thanks guys, keep the advise coming. My present plan is to put it in the world of wheels auction in February with a 10,000 reserve. May consider listing it prior just to see if there are any bites. I don't really need the money, but would like to have extra garage space back by spring.

Oh No!!! ..... Auction !!!

Hey Mountain Man from my experience an auction, unless you take it to Barret Jackson in January ( a 72 Cheyenne sold for 15,000 k US last year), will only make the auction a few of your 100's richer.. It would surprise me if your truck puled more than 7500. at a Canadian auction..

Looks like a nice clean truck. If it was a short box, it would bring much more money. Long boxes are much more common. I ran across more than I can count laying in farmers fields north of Edmonton. Never did see a short box. I tend to agree about the auctions not being the greatest bet. Great for buying, not great for selling. Put it on E-bay with a high reserve to see what kind of bids it gets. That should give you a rough idea. The high dollar hurts the values also, as it makes it less likely an American will look north for a bargain. As for the Old Car Trader, is it just me or is 99% of the stuff in there WAY over priced. Try putting an ad in the Bargain Finder. It's free.
