Front Suspension

I have recently aquired a 65 chevy LB to set beside my 69 SB. I have been taking it apart to completely restore it. I have found that GM used the same frame and suspension on these two trucks except one is a LB frame and one A SB frame. My Questions......

1. I have a complete disc brake set up that I removed from a 72 5 lug truck. Can or has anyone used a 6 lug rotor that will fit the 72 spindle? I prefer to keep the 6 lug set-up since I already like my wheels. If I remember correctly I would have to change the upper ball joint and the outer tie rod end on the 65 to accept the 72 spindle???

2. I would like to lower the 65 truck. On my 69 I used coil clamps on the rear to lower the truck to level height with the front. I could do the same on the 65 rear coil springs but I was wondering if I bought the shortened front coil springs to bring the front down as well, will the 65 truck be able to be aligned properly on the caster/camber adjustment? Sometimes you run into the adjustment bolts for this alignment, is not long enough to make the correct alignment. I'm sure someone has attempted this solution by buying the shortened coils springs. Could you share some info please?

dont know about the lowering part, but as far as the swap, if you look at my avatar you will see a 6 lug disc rotor, i bought it from Early Clasic Enterprises(ECE) but many of the board vendors sell this rotor too(http://67-72chevytrucks.com/) you will need to change upper and lower ball joints for this spindle, and as far as the tie rods, see if the threaded end that hook into the sleeve are the same thickness, if they are different thickness then you will either need to use the 72 steering stuff all the way across or purchase the adaptor sleeve that classic performance products carries(they are also a board vendor. ask more questions if you need
and if some one hasnt already done it, WELCOME TO THE BOARD form portland oregon

Thanks 68w/sbc406 for the disc info. I guess that 6 lug rotor will slide onto a stock 72 spindle?

I figured that someone out there would have replied to my lowering question. There has to be several people out there that have lowered their trucks.

Thanks again for your help.

Try to stick with around 2 1/2-3" max drop on a spring, & you should be ok on alignment. if you need more drop, you can go 2 1/2" drop spindle, then your choice of spring......or airbags. Best of luck, crazyL

Thanks Crazy Longhorn. If that's the case then I'll probably just drop it 2 inches to be on the safe side.

If you want...just bolt the whole front crossmember from the 72 into the 6x and buy the rotors with the 6-lugs...from Early Classic or one of the board members
