HELP ! Looking for Side Steps - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Thank's, for the responses, guys, I have tried those sites and parts dealers you'all have suggested to no avail. Any one know if side steps fromthe 73-91 Burbs can be retrofitted to my 71 Burb ?? Or any side steps at all ??

I' looking to find and/or buy "Side Steps" (tube steps,step rails ,nerf bars, etc.) For my 1971 GMC 4WD 'BURB'. Anybody know who makes them for my truck. My buddies and family are tired of jumping up to get into the truck!,
and I've gone thru several milk crates 'cause of the heavy weights !!!
Any help or info would be greatly appreciated,,,,,,Pat

Look in Summit or maybe Go Rhino website. The Sears Truck/ book has some in it also I think. Do a search for nerf bars.

Hey, Mudder67, Thanks for the reply, I emailed them both, and neither one makes them for my Burb. I checked about 14 web sites, and about five of them sell the Summit side steps. All that sell only have for the early eighties thru 2004. Been to two
local shops and they want $800 or better to install them with special made brackets.
I thought some of you 4X4 buds would know some trick way to install the bars.
Would appreciate any help ......Pat

Yep, I get their catalogs about twice a month,the only ones they have are the 'running board' types that attach with brackets to the rocker backer sheet metal, I'm looking for the bars that attach to the frame, as I would like to remove them,when I really don't need them. Thanks for the reply,,,,

I would go to a web site called nerfbars.com I think that is the web site they list thier nerf bars by truck and the size in in. this will bet you the correct lenght bars then order a stanles set from summit they are the cheepest I have found. and order a set the correct langht then make your own brakets. thier is no one that makes them for your berb but LMC does sell a set for 67-72 truck you may be able to get them to get you a set of thier monting brackets to use with the bars you find. I bought a set this way for my blazer and Im making my own mounts from 3x3 boxed steel.

I have a set that are 77in long if they will work thier stainless and I only had themon the truck for 3 month then the truck got totaled but they are like new. if they are the write size let me know before you buy a set they are to big for my blazer I was going to keep them to try and use to trade at a swap meat but if they will work for you Ill let them go.they came off an exstended cab GMC

Sorry for the delay,Earl,, thanks for the offer, but I need to know the length from the mount at the frame to the bend of the bars.If you can send pics it would help too.

Try Lmc. They Had A Lot Of Parts For Chevy/gmc Trucks. I Got A Set Of Running Boards From Them For My 86 K5 Blazer For Just Under 150.

Side step bars are hideous. They ruin the lines of a classic truck. The only side protection worthy of install on a classic 4x4 truck are rock sliders tucked up well against the rockers. That is armor tubing to protect the rockers from damage by rocks off-road. But that a fabrication item.

For your ingress/egress needs, consider a swelte Kodiak Sidewinder Retractable Step. Down when the door is opened, up when the door is closed.

Blaserman,,, The LMC catalogs show steps for the 2door pickups & Blazers,, will give them a call. to check....

4X4 Poet ,,yeah- they are un cool, but I need them when I go off road with my heavy weight buddys who need the step up (milk crate) to get into the Burb. Those "KodiaK" steps are costly for 3 of 'em,,,,

Any body Know if side steps made for 73-91 Burbs can be retrofitted to my 71 Burb..??????
