Bag'D 72 Chevy help!

Alright guys, few more ?'s

i have air ride's bags, with 2 inch blocks, notched rear, and 2 inch dropped spindles.

If I enlarge the rear notch and put bags over axle. Then drop the front crossemember as far as i can with stock steering. Will I be able to lay frame?

Does anyone have pics of how far up the front wheels(20's) will come when laying frame?

What is everyone doing for hood hinges. I've made custom front inner fenders and have trimmed the hood hinges as far as i can. Also I'll modify these to go lower.

AND is it worth the work to go lower. I really want it, but how much time am i looking at?

I'll let some of the 67-72 guys answer some of your questions that I'm not sure about. Here's what I can tell you about laying out in front. Your A-arms are going to hit the ground before the frame does.

Look at the pivot point where the A-arms are connected to the crossmember. That becomes the lowest point of your front suspension when you get your clearence issues up top resolved....

you could lay out with these control arms.... look at my attached pic. What size tire are you going to run. That is a big issue too! This frame is set up to lay out on 20-22 combo.

my friend just got his 72 to lay out.. he "Z"d his front frame!! and put a big notch in the back.. lays out really nice now! ill see if i can stop at his shop this week and snap some pics

Im on 245/40 on 20x8 rims on front. 255/35 on 20x9.5 out back


What kind of control arms are those?

245 40 20's are almost 2inches taller then what i have on that frame. I have 245 40-20 on my suburban and i did the control arms and the 2inch crossmember notch. and my frame lays out ....almost need to cut a few more things. To run that tire you will need to do lower control arms like i did. I know where to get them at..... hopefully soon. My partner and I are in the process of working out the numbers to make up 20 arms for 63-87 crossmembers.

My burb lays frame on 245 40 20 with 1.5 dropped member, 2.5 inch spindles, upper plates but no lower cups, and stock arms.

Ghetocrewzer-How do you not have a lower cup? Did you do anything to the control arm?? and does the bag rub?

the bag sits right in control arm and doesnt rub when aired out it sits right on control arm with no problems.

I would like to see some pics also I am really debating If I should go for the tubular arms or not went and looked at wheels today MMMMM Boss 301s Not sure what I am going to get yet thoughis anyone running a 9.5 inch wide wheel up front.... is it even possible

I dont know I may even z the frame my truck already has a high hump since it was once manual how much of a rear notch is needed to lay out on 40 series 20s

bagd, do you have to have hood hinges? you could go with a front hinged hood or go with no hinges at all and run hood pins...

i have smoothed every thing out the truck, I'm definitelly not running pins, and it seems like everyone else has a forward tilt hood. Just looking for other less obvious solutions.

You can use the ones from Sachse Rod shop mounted in closer.....

I have no idea why they mounted the hood strut like they did. I know it can be mounted going toward the rear because I have seen it done....

My dad used to have a set of those sitting around in his garage, but he sold them. I might try those out, way better then the stockers.

That is a Goodmark hood. I have no idea what the bottom of one looks likes, but it appears they added a panel on the inner structure to have a mounting point....

I'm a little familiar with this. You box in the corner for more strength cause our hoods are heavy, but you have to make sure it is level to the ground and everything is square so nothing binds. You also have to move the hinges inboard more to clear the cowl with sides of the hood and possibl to clear the wheel when the hood is down.

I've read throught the crossmember drop a million times, but now its like a novel. What is the biggest crossmember drop I can do with the stock steering setup? And what binds with the steering when you go too low?
