Non paying board member
Would like to have a little input from members on this board about a non paying member.I sold a used lund sun visor to a gent from this board and sent it to him on oct 25 and he received it on the 29 acording to ups.He has only e mail me once to say he hasn't had time to send out money yet.How long does a guy wait before i let out his board name.I think he's had plenty of time what is your opinions.Ive always trusted the board members but I guess its a lesson learned. No more sending product till I get payed first. Not like the fiftys where a hand shake or where you could take a guys word.I guess Ill give him till next week and if no money I will post his board name.Trust there ain't none anymore.

IMO, i would give the mods or whoever a day or two to see this post, they should do something as the mods are always here watching. If in an odd occurance they do nothing, then i would contact them and seek their advice.

Not hard to see who it is, with a simple search. Looks like the non-payer hasn't posted since 10-25.

Because trust is a two way street. I had "won" some parts on Evil bay, sent the money paypal, and waited 8 weeks to get the parts. It was only after I threatened to report him to E-bay that he finally came through. Then he threatened ME with negative feedback as well.
It's a risk both parties have to take...unfortunately one must happen before the other. It kind of falls back on whether you feel that you can trust the other party involved.

This is sad, remember that sending a part w/o payment to a well established board member still has risks, although odds are good that it won't be a problem. I have done this myself without problems. (Thanks Tink!)
To sent out a part to someone with only 20 something post is very risky. Hopefully we this can be resolved. |

I sent the visor out early cause I had to run 12 miles to town to weigh and measure it and did not want to run in again. The money dosen't mean crap to me its the idea.I just don't want to see any other board member have the same problem with him.Hell I love this car and truck hobbie and the people involved with it and Im a trusting person as I have been in this stuff since I was 10 yrs old, back in the 50s.Ive bought and sold on e bay and I send parts early with no problems, but this will change my ways. Thanks to all replies and keep on TRUCKING.

I guess I am too trusting...but then again, I usually use Paypal.
If it is someone on this board, then it really depends on how familiar I am with them. So far, I would say 99% of the guys and gals on here are pretty straight, good people. I have bought stuff from someone on the board, sent the money, and heard nothing for days and they stop posting. The mod was very helpful. It turned out he honestly was busy and I got my stuff just a little later than I had hoped.

This is a sad post. I have been in that situation many times on the trust part.
What I do now, is I usually overestimate the shipping cost from the top of my head. I tell them I will refund any excess shipping. After mailed, I paypal back the difference in the shipping cost. Tommy

I've even been burned by someone I considered a close friend, by doing what you did. It really is too bad that a man's word seems to mean very little anymore. Any more, until the cash is in my hands, I won't so much as even package anything. I don't sell very much online anymore. Too many deadbeats and tire kickers. My time and patience is a precious commodity, these days. I hate having both wasted.

I agree with 23and56. I too am from the old school of trust and handshakes. Unfortunately the world is changing. If I receive goods, the money is out the next day. If you don't have the money, don't order it!!! Why wuld you burn some giy for a lousy $25.00? You guys that give this jerk 10-14 days to rectify it are way to kind.

i never ship anything until not only do i have the cash in my paypal account, but until after the paypal deposit is made into my account. had several guys (none board members) send me money for parts via paypal, then after i sent them tracking numbers and such try to dispute the charges to their paypal account. of course, i won, since i had docementation of all of the dealings leading up to the transaction, and proof that it was shipped. rather than get scammed by the bad ones, i just wait it out until everything is cleared, unless of course it is someone who i have known for a long time or desperately needs the item.

That tops my list with internet transactions. Then being a buyer paying in advance and getting stiffed. Followed by holding something for someeone who desperately needs an item and never hearing from them again after they jerk you around for a while.

I wouldn't have banned him until this was resolved, all that accomplishes is a break in the communication link, if that member dared to post on here the members would be all over him.
