2nd project for the weekend: Frenched antenna (pics)

Completed the second fab project for the weekend, did a frenched antenna on the drivers side of the cab. Used 1 1/2" pipe for the tube. Took about 6 hours total including a little body filler. It's not completely done yet, it still needs a little filler in one spot, then more filler primer. I really like these, and was not sure how it would look on my truck, but I like the outcome

Glock...That looks great. I think I want to do the same mod for my 71' because it is one of those with a "no hole cowl". Wish I knew how to weld.

Alex, check with General Air. They have some Saturady classes on MIG welding somewhere around the metro area. I don't have their schedule here at home, but they do MIG and TIG classes every few months. Call them or stop by one of their stores to get a schedule. I think they are only $50 per day. There is a one day "basic" class, and a one day "advanced" class two Saturdays later. They are well worth the $$$!!

Getting there for sure! I think as soon as I get the mods done to the cab, I'm gonna set it on the frame and start assembling the rest of the parts so I can start the rest of the body work.

drain hole?

Couldn't tell in your pics if you put a drain hose in the bottom. I highly reccomend it.

Yeah, I remembered that, almost too late though

Look at the second picture, you can see the light black vacuum cap on the drain nipple, right in front of the antenna. I was leak testing the welds in that pic.

FRENCHBLUE72 - That was one of the first things I did. There will be (top to bottom): Factory A/C vent, JVC deck, Vintage Air controler, and billet pull-out cup holders on either side. Haven't decided where to put the ignition yet.

You scare me.

Too much talent, and I don't think I have any. You Remind me of Randy70C10. He told me once I experimented with the welder. He now welds everything awesome. Kerry

Where did you get the power antenna set-up from? I've been thinking of doing this myself, but really haven't looked into kits yet.
Thanks

I got it at AutoZone. I think it was $39.99. Works nicely, a little loud, but then again I have never heard another one to compare it too.

I like the shaved bed stake holes, shaved mirrors, and things like that. But I think this is just the coolest thing to do to the exterior

The po of my truck TRIED this mod but the antenna never worked and when i pulled the cab off i noticed that it was causing water damage and the guy who was doing the body work on my cab sudjested i plug the hole and go with a winshield antenna. He said they work great and look even cleaner ..... i hope he's right. Anyone has any experience with these type antenas?

I will have to get 67 chev to get the pics of his posted. the guy that did his did a very nice job. greyhound steve- you are talking about the antena that is two lines going up the windshield and then across? I am going with one that runs inside the dash so that nothing is seen.
