Inner/Outer roof clearance ?

How much space do we have between the outer skin of the roof and the inner steel skin?
I need to have a little more light and want to ditch the factory dome light.
Thanks,

Mike, I will get you a measurement tomorrow morning...unless someone beats me to it.

What do you have in mind for a replacement? Have you given any thought to a lighted rear view mirror to go along with your existing dome light?

I didn't think of that.........that's not a bad idea.
I have a Nascar-like rearview mirror in there now and (you can see 5 feet on each side of the truck from the seat) and I don't want to lose that but I might work up something.

I bought a 9 inch round dome light (like they use in ambulances) off eBay and want that in there.

after reading this i thought it would be kinda cool to have custom lights in the roof instead of the factory. Perhaps some LED strips or something... good idea...

YEP. We got one out of the salvage yard and put iit in 86 Red Bowtie's truck. His has a headliner, so the wiring is hidden. The wiring can be connected to whichever circuit you want. The dome light system so that it comes on with the door being open or just connected as a maplight and can be turned on manually. Remember the dome lights are wired hot all of the time and the ground circuit is what is broken by the pin switches on the doors. This will keep you from doing that damned OOOPS when you connect the wire the first time.

YOU know that color-keyed duct tape is a very Uptown thing; one must be neat when you tape it for the street.
