Rear Leaf Flip ?'s

Hey everybody!

I've got leafs in the back and am thinking of lowering the rear. I've seen flip kits at parts stores for like $35, but would I really need one? Also, would I need to run different shocks? How much drop would I actually be getting from a flip? I plan on actually using my truck as a truck every now and then and was wondering how this is going to affect load handling.

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get all my bases covered before I start a project.

you probably havent seen flip kits at the parts stores for $35, most likely what you have seen are lift/lowering blocks.. which applied to a stock 73-87 suspension would lift the rear. A flip kit will mount your axle on top of your leaf springs. About 5" drop. As far as shocks, you can get lowering brackets to run stock shocks, otherwise yes you need to run lowered shocks.

A flip kit won't affect your load handling at all. The springs aren't changed in any way.

It will, however, affect your available suspension travel. A c-notch may be needed to revover some lost travel.

What I saw wasn't a lift/lowering block kit, but it was right below them. It actually said rear axle flip kit on it...I should try to run to Bumper-to-Bumper tomorrow and see if they've still got one. (it was a couple months ago when I saw it...seems like that's about the last time I had free to do a "guy" thing)
