Ok I'm sure this has been posted one time another but how do i get that awful ugly tarnished stain off my grill tried alot stuff but nothing works,had this same stain on my impala,looks good while it's wet but dried looks like crap.Any help would be appreciated.Thanks Randy

Yea,aluminum seems like hate to say it but f**d products.like there aluminum grills still looks new i wonder what they do differently.

well, Here's what I've done, But I'm NOT RECOMENDING IT!!!!!!! anyways if what your try to clean up isn't exactly "cherry" and you just want it to look better. I've had luck polishing stuff up with real FINE steel wool, and some windex. Not the kind the wife uses with soap in it, but the kind you can by at a woodworking supply store ( maybe home depot) there are various grades/ thicknesses/ guages or however they measure steel wool, Get the real fine stuff. (0000) I think. People use it for buffing furnature & stuff. I used it on the grill, bumper, & headlight bezels on my gmc. now they shine like new,,cept for the dents. Like I said I'M NOT SAYING TO USE IT, but you could try an old or inconspicuous part and see what you think. Stuff is amazing.

use 0000 it is the finest stuff you can get and it ok gor glass and tint too

The grill is more than likely annodized (clear coat) I took some easyoff oven cleaner and an SOS pad and took it off.Then I used a 600 grit wet sand paper to it and followed it with 1000 grit and last but not least 1500 grit and then polshed it with some mothers aluminum polish.Yes it was a pain in the a$& and I could of wet sanded some more

but it looks alot better.

I did this a couple of months back and it looks good. See the pics i posted in the 69-72 forum, its not new, but looks 100% better than it did. Just don't breath the oven cleaner fumes

Randy, "Jake Slim" is right. You could get some 2000 grit sandpaper and then polish it with some "Mothers" or some 3M polishing compound and it will come out. You can even sand with rougher grits and work your way back up and polish from there. I do the Centerline aluminum wheels on my Powerstroke that way every few months and they look like new again. Just sit down on a stool and take your time. It will polish back out again like new.
