HEI question

I want to install a distributor from an '86 vette with a hypertech coil instead of the old points version. Can anyone tell me the procedure to get it wired up?

Thanks!

From the HEI thread:

Quote:
any HEI distributor on any chevy V8 without the extra 4 pin flat wiring plug will work, make sure it has the vacuum advance diapragm on it (not ESC controlled in some of the 81-up vehicles such as camaros firebirds pickups, etc)
Hmm, so the one I've got has the 4 pin flat plug ('86 vette) and no vacuum advance... I assume it won't work?

You can make it work by jumping wires, but it won't advance, which causes the engine not to perform, midaswell stick with the points. You can find a good HEI unit here on the board fairly cheaply, just post a WTB in the 73-87 forum.

If you look to buy after the holidays, I can hang onto the HEI I'll be pulling off my motor for you. Its got a new module, pickup coil, and a good cap + coil, should provide many years of reliable service. I'll be swapping to tuned port injection which uses the same dizzy you happen to have right now. So, what I am thinking is that you box up that HEI, ship it up to me, I'll box mine up, ship it down to you, just ask that you pay all the shipping. Then I've got a spare incase my TPI dizzy quits, and you've got a good working HEI to use in your truck

Sound good? Waiting till after the holidays gives me time to finish with the HEI, I intend to put the points setup I have into my DD for right now, and use the HEI for breaking my other 350 in due to it's ease of installation, after that, I don't need it anymore as it'll be getting the TPI treatment
