3/4 ton owners...question about fitting late model factory wheels

I was thinking about putting late model '04 Chevy/GMC 8-lugs on my '77 C-20. Is this possible, or is it only the '02 and earlier 8 lugs that will fit?
Any problems with hub centers or fitment I should watch out for?
Thanks for the help,
SC

I put 02 Rally wheels on my 70 GMC 3/4. Fit is good. Only problem I found, was they came with 1/2" lug nuts, and on the rear I have drum brakes with 7/16" studs. Front disc off of a 71 Burb have 1/2" studs. Didn't really want to have rear drums and axles drilled for 1/2" studs. Lug nuts supplied have the plastic screw on covers. Found some 7/16"-ID lugnuts at a swap meet that will work just fine for the rear, and the plastic covers fit good. They fit good in the rims(no slop, even when tightened by hand before ya torque them down), the bevel is correct(V), so I went with them. Hope this helps?

I've seen a couple pics of our vintage trucks with the newer wheels, and I think they do "tuck in" too far. I was considering them for my truck, but decided against them for that very reason.

On the other hand, I've heard LOTS of people comment that they really like them, so I think I'm in the minority.

I have seen a few and they didn't tuck that far. Things things are pretty flat on front. I'll have to measure them to see what backspace they are.

Anyone got pics?

All GM 8 lug wheels (SRW applications, all years) have the same bolt pattern and offset. They do not tuck in any further than the original wheels. The late model 6 lug wheels do have about 2 inches more backspacing than the '87 and older wheels. People keep confusing the 6 and 8 lug wheels in answers to this type of question.

Tim, you sure about that? look at how much rim is sticking out on the outside...an inch, maybe an inch and a half. All the old wheels I've seen stick out quite a bit more.
I have steel wheels off a later van on my one ton, the back spacing is all wrong, and it isn't as drastic as the wheels in the picture...and they look flat out retarded on my truck.

hello, how about late model 8 lugs on my 98 K2500 suburban? It's 8 lug, and I think they would look great on it, if the backspacing is okay... Thanks!

The 8-lugs fit my 72 3/4 ton just fine. The center caps do not fit directly on the dana 60 axle. You need either a 1/2 wheel spacer or you can just double lug the nuts. It's a pain when you change a tire, 16 lug nuts! That's what I did, got the idea from Solver. The lug nuts themselves you need some conversion ones. The later trucks went metric on the lug nuts not the bolt pattern. The lugnuts are 9/16" on mine. Got all 32 of em for like 40 bucks on ebay. The 04 ones will definately not work.

Found a link for some lugnuts. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...sPageName=WDVW

Here's a link for some spacers. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...936867913&rd=1

Dunno the backspacing. I think they fill out just fine under my truck. I had a 75 step-side once. Went with stock tires. Hated em. With all that wheelwell left I was reminded of the wheels on a lil red wagon.

not trying to talk bad about your ride...it looks to be 10 times the truck of all the trucks I've had combined...
but you don't think the wheels look too tucked in?
Makes me think of a fat man on stilts.
Again...no disrespect...

None taken. I don't think they look bad at all. Wheels size looks a heck of a lot better n the stock wheels on my old 75 . Hope you don't get me all paranoid about it now!

One more thing what's a SRW?

Thanks for the responses guys.
I found a set of 16x8 Eagle billets with 4" backspacing for $250, new in the box. I'm going with those.
Thanks for the help,
SC

88 & newer ralleys

These are a great inexpensive wheel that doesn't require any maintenance, like alum wheels. There are lots of them around and often you can find them as new takeoffs with tires for ready to go savingsl...and the offset is just fine. They don't stick out of the fenders, so what the heck.

Those do fill up the fenderwells better. Same size rim though just bigger tires?
