Have a 69 GMC 1 ton. Soon to pull the 350 out and go to a 400sb. Also going to put TBI on it with the serpentine belt set-up. I think the serp set up pushes the fan forward about 1 to 1.5'' forward. My thoughts are to use the big block towers which will allow the use of the heavier duty motor mount. Will this put the engine back for the fan placement?

i thought that sb and bb mounts were the same, except for a dip in them for the manafolds??? if that were true you could use bb mounts on a small block

I agree with 68w/sbc406. I am not sure that changing the motor towers is going to change engine placement. the solution might be as simple as not running a fan spacer to gain back fan depth in the shroud. If it still pushes the fan too deep you might be able to run a big block shroud which would also allow the use of a bigger fan blade.

set it on 6 cylinder stands in the rear holes.

The set-up I have with the serp belt is a fan clutch. I like the idea of the BB shroud, that may work out just right--won't have to move the trans then.
