Where to mount mufflers?

Does anyone have any feedback on mounting the mufflers under the cab? I plan on running the exhaust out the bedside in front of the tires on both sides. I am running 2 1/2" pipe through the frame and want to mount 40 series flowmasters between the tranny and frame. What is your opinion?

Wow, that's "exactly" what I did, 40 series Flowmasters, 2 1/2 pipes the same exact way. My Flowmasters are about 12 inches behind the header flanges.

Just got done re-routing my exhaust. I love the sound of flowmasters, however, when mounted just beneath the cab, the sound resonates inside the cab. Gets old really fast. I ended up mounting mine underneath the bed, and dumping infront of the rear end. Sound perfect. Rumbles really well, but doesn't echo inside the cab.....

That would be my sugestion,Move them behind the cab.I'm running mufflers right under the cab now too,and it gets really old yelling at the person in the passenger side,or maybe I'm too old to enjoy that kind of noise anymore.

under the cab does get old pretty quick. Esp if you do any road trips.

Ear plugs should not be maditory for doing over 60 MPH.

Plus,a little known minor fact, the exhaust is less restrictive when you place the mufflers further back. Also, turn downs are not a good idea, the exhaust is corrosive and is not good for the sheetmetal...not to mention, poverty pipes simply suck.

loud is one thing...annoying as a complete other thing.
I honestly prefered open headers to under cab mufflers.
At least with open headers, you don't even try to talk to your passengers.

I'mnot talking about pipes under the bed side I mean through the bed side in front of the wheel. Read the post. I know it will be noisy but the truck is not a daily driver. I plan on putting ALOT of sound deadening material in the cab anyways. It has a 25.5" talltire and 3.73 rear so highway driving is noisey already add a PJ geardrive and 40 years of use and I'll take what I can get. Thanks for the replies. Randy how do you like the sound of your setup?

I was kinda addressing your question, and the turn down idea listed in this thread at the same time.
I read it twice before responding.
