wiring harness swap???

More engine swap stuff.... as you guys have prolly read i was going to do a "quick" engine trans swap in my 74 c10... was a 250/3 tree now i have a 305/2004r combo... now my question is this... I have a 79 instrument cluster with volt and elec oil pressure gauge in my cab (easy swap if you have idiot lights originally) BUT i have a complete underhood engine wiing harness out of a 74 Cheyenne Super with a V8/TH350... can i use that harness and be ok with the voltmeter instead of ammeter??? I do have numerous gauge clusters with all combos ammeters, and wet o/p gauges, so i could easily make he swap, but i would hate to smoke some wires if i do the swap... the 250 harness is not to freindly lengthwise with the 305... any sugestions??? I will get some pics up as soon as i get the pc at home to be nice with photoshop... thanks people...

You won't be able to use the voltmeter with the harness designed for an ammeter.

hmmmmmm.. so im wondering if the factory interior idiot light harness is compatible then with the engine compartment ammeter harness or would i have to change out both??? i can make the original six cyl harnesss work, just have to splice length int o some wires and section others, but if i can gethe fact v8 harness to work it would be a little cleaner install ...
