I just got the carb back from being rebuilt, and got the truck running for the first time good enough to actually drive it. It would idle all I wanted it to, but still runs like crap. It won't rev up without popping. Also it was very hard to restart, and I know the battery is good, I just pulled it out of my daily driver. Anyway it hadn't been driven it 5 years so I'm not at all surprised so I'll just keep after it until it runs good. I'm guessing the next step is checking the timing, I have a feeling it's way too far advanced, hence the hard starting only when warm.

Congrats on getting it running again. Sounds to me like a timing problem also.

Yeah, after 5 years I would give that thing a complete tune-up and change all of the fluids. If it's been sitting for that long with the same gas I would either take all that old gas out, or what I did was dilute mine with good gas and threw in some gas treatments, carb cleaners. It probably wouldn't hurt to change the fuel filter and possibly pump as well. The first time that I got mine started, after laying dormant for a few years, it blew out alot of smoke and sputtered a little. I just start it up at least every other day and keep throwing in new gas to work the old crap through the lines.

the tank is new, it has a new filter, and trust me, there's no way it would have run with the old gas, it had about the worst varnish smell I've ever smelled. I'm just excited that it made it out the driveway and up the street, and even got me back home. I'm sure I'll be posting for help getting it sorted out in the engine section.

The 1st trip flat @ss rocks! after 8 yrs that the old longhorn was down for "slumber".....when she woke up, she was runnin a 455 Olds, standard bore, engle cam, torker intake, with an 800 DP Holley on top! Basically a stocker , with milled heads, & some "goodies", squeazed 3200 out of a so called 2300 stall verter! yes it did run like stink..... the rear hides were still smokin @ 100 mph , pulling high gear on that 400 turbo
