Not for the meek.....

5 weeks ago I exited my truck "through the windshield" as it was rolling over. I'm doing fine all things considered. Anyhow, here's my poor '70 GMC. I will be rebuilding it this summer!

My daughter is doing fine, one bruise and one scratch.

Five weeks ago I took my Daughter out so she could practice driving. It was her first time in a "full size" anything. She got too close to the shoulder and the edge of the road grabbed the tire. She over-compensated and went into the on-coming traffic. I ripped off my seatbelt, slid over and grabbed the wheel. I told her to stop, but she freaked out and hit the gas pedal. We ended up rolling across a church parking lot and into the grass. I was flown to the hospital in a helicotper and woke up about 30 hours later with a broken collar bone, 3 cracked ribs and a cracked skull. I suffered some damage in 4 areas of my brain but nobody can tell the difference. My brain will heal, the only thing that won't (besides my pride) is my collar bone, looks like I may need a bone graft and a steel plate. (I'm glad I retired from the Navy), so far the medical expenses just from the first 5 days in the hospital are close to $30,000!!

Wow, glad to hear you are getting better. Definitely glad your daughter made it through OK. I am sure she beat herself up over it though. Looks like the truck held together well considering what it went through. You are both lucky it was a tough old chevy.

As other have said, you and your daughter are here...that is what counts. For the GMC, that is why the Lord had us invent welders, sawzalls and Photoshop.
Someone had their hand on you Randy., Glad your still abouts!!

This truck is a testament as to how well they are built. She was still buckled up when it rolled and walked away!!

Glad to hear everyone is doing well and on the mend.

Looks like the cab held together very well.

What did the front end look like?

Randy, glad to hear you and especially your daughter are OK. It's too bad that urban areas don't have much low traffic areas to practice driving. Where I live, in the middle of nowhere, there are all kinds of no traffic roads or fields to practice in.

Sheesh man. Coulda been so much worse. Imagine that same scenario in a late model anything. Maybe softer surfaces inside for you to bang around on but I don't think a later model would hold up that well.

Get that girl back on the horse asap, if you haven't already, so the fear doesn't set in permanantly.

Glad to hear you are both doin ok.

Wish I had parts to help out with.

looks like this may be a cantidate for a convertable truck.
Anyone remember the dodge dakotas in the 80's with the rag top?

Actually, I already have another cab, bed, and new wheels. Two very nice doors are on the way. The truck it still driveable except for the body damage. The only thing I'll need to order is a drivers side fender.

Whew!

That's a close one. I'm a firefighter and see alot of this sort of thing. From my 20 years of experience, If I see a fatality/ejection you can be assured there was a seat belt not in use. It was miraculous, things were not worse for you and yours. I'm so glad it happened that way.. and you had all that good ol' Detroit steel helping a little. Heal quick..and buckle up boys and girls!
