New Burb
Well guys I am officially apart of the club!! I just bought a 1968(?) 1/2 ton surburban and I am very excited. It is a low optioned vehicle, I guess I really dont care about that but I have a couple of questions. The vin on this vehicle breaks down as a 1967 surburban (7 being the fifth alphanumeric digit). Yes it has side markers but they (side markers) have NO provision for inserting a light socket and also there are no harness for the light sockets for the side makers front or aft. So I guess the question is what year is this vehicle? Second what does the stock dome light look like? thanks for all inputs. Will post pics tomorrow

I'm a little confused about the lights being on a 1967, but I have a 1968.It has the same side marker lights that you describe. I was told that they are correct for 1968 only,as reflectors without lights. In 1969, lights were cut into the housings and wired in.

New burb x2
So I'm walking out of the shoppette and a guy asks what year suburban was I driving and I said 67/68 wasnt sure. He responded with the "I know where a 72 suburban with only three doors is!! " Not getting too excited I asked was it for sale and was assured I could get it at a good price. I called the guy to set up a visit that day. Well he reconfirmed what the first guy stated and we took a look. There rested a 72 4x4 burb 1/2 ton, 350/350th 373, tilt, three seats, rear air, red over white white interior with woodgrain inserts,all the crome minus the Cheytag on the cargo barn door vehicle. So we struck a deal right there on the spot; very more than reasonable price. My only dilemma is I had grown very fond of 67/68 burb ( I can already see the reponses) but I really want to do all of my vehicles (list is getting longer) right. I will have to stow the vehicle 72 before I could get to it, not currently running. My question is are there any assembly manuals specific for the 67-72 surburban? Does rear air make a difference Iknow it helps? Can a 4x4 I know it goes against the grain be dropped 2" all the way around? Need to figure how to resize pics less than 100

Rear air makes a big difference.On a hot day,the cold is coming from the front and back!I just got a rear heater from Frank.That makes a big dif too.

I would check the vin again or make sure the tag is original . 68 had the dummy marker lights .

On the '72, it looks complete and fairly unmolested. Good that the cancer is all down low.
2 burbs! How are your time managment skills. Just tell yourself that fleet ownership saves time because there's always a truck available that runs.

That 72' looks to be a pretty sweet rig! Same color/interior as my 72' C20 burb... 68' looks pretty solid too... Good Luck on them!!

BTW, my 69 has the dummy lights also. It's got lenses but no holes or wires to install the lights. never been drilled for them either. I think it was 1970 that they became mandatory. Could be wrong on that though.

I suspect you have a 68 that was built in late 67, you see the 68 model year would have been built in late 67 to late 68 when the 69 year would have started. It is my understanding that the vin may reflect when it was built, not the model year.\
Haven't you ever wondered why you can buy a new "05" by sept of "04"......cause they start building them as early as June......(I had a 93 model year, built in june of 92.......which kinda sucked cause in had the 92 setup electronicly, while mechanicly it was a 93......) Thus the "Transition Year" that is talked about above.

So....how long before you get a nasty letter from the neighborhood association about the fleet?(or is that post housing...?) lol. I like the 72 stepside also! In the market for one myself.

I guess I could really go along with the model year the 68 actuallly being produced in late 67 because after several attempts to decipher the vin it clearly
works out to be a 67 vehicle and yes the vin on the vehicle and title match. My neighbors on Tinker AFB were not thrilled when I arrived with the 68 burb. As a matter of fact I sort a feel (relatively not really) obligated to drive the vehicles so no one could say that I'm running a salvage yard/ chop shop. thank for the compliments. AG

I wonder if the I.D. Tag was changed from a 1967 to the truck body that you have now at some point. It sure looks like those lights were not grafted into that body.

67`s have smaller ignition switch and dash knobs than 68-72. Unless the markers have been cut in, it`s a 68.
