Switch ID

New to 4X4(helping son build 72 blazer-orangeuavol). Is this the switch that indicates what gear you are in transfer case? If so how does it work --make or break or what?
Thanks

That switch turns on a 4wd lite on the dash. Do not think that was available until the 80's. What year transfer is it?

This picture was used for referance only. Ours should be from '85 back as it has the "8-bolt racetrack" input cover. I thought that what it was for but wondered how it would turn the light on for each position. Trying to figure out how to rig up a light panel for his '72. Thanks for the reply.

It's just an on/off switch for being in or out of 4wd. No Hi/Lo function.
