Anyone tried installing cylinders to lift the rear hatch?
Just wondering if anyone tried installing cylinders on the hatch instead of the cheezy factory slides?

I have finished mine and It works great. Unfortunately I just took it apart to get the hatch painted. I took some pictures while I was trying to figure out what to do and Ill see if I can find them and get them posted. Maybe Ill get motivated and post a FAQ.

Great love to see them. If you did them you should consider talking to so manufactures to get it into production.

I have them on my hatch. Well I have one, one side got broken. I have not been in a big hurry to fix it because my top has been off for about three years. I go rag or topless. I will try to snap a picture tomorrow.

There was a guy around my area that restored a 2wd Blazer for his son and he had made a solid piece of glass for the rear hatch much as a new vehicle with the gas struts and all. Too bad 2 weeks after he turned 16 and got it, he flipped it and totaled the vehicle. His dad spent two years building that thing. Might be a neat trick to try for someone.

Could you provide more details on the struts? What are they from? Where did you get them? How well do they work?

The struts were on the top when I bought it, and worked well. I was going to replace them, because one is broken. I am in no hurry, but I did some research. I found that a good place to buy the parts is an RV (trailer / motorhome) parts store. They seem to have a good selection. Anyway mine are about 20 inches open and about 13 inches closed.

That's pretty cool. Do the struts come with the mounting plates? Or do you need to make those? Can you post a closeup of the mounting plates? Do the mounting plates utilize the stock srew holes?

The struts I've seen do not come with mounts, but you can buy the pivot ball that has a threaded stud and make your own mount. Or, I am sure that the wreaking yards have a wealth of mounts on late model mini vans and other disposable vehicles.
