I'm thinking of buying this '70 lwb stepside

Hey,

I'm thinking of buying this. It looks clean, but needs the wooden bed replaced, and some other TLC. Also, the truck has fiberglass rear fenders.

It also has a rebuilt 250, fresh clutch, etc. The guy says he'll take 3200.00, but I'm thinkin more along the lines of about 2800-2900.00.

What do y'all think? Thanks.....

It looks like it's in pretty good condition, I can't see any rust on it from the picture. What you're thinking of offering doesnt' seem too bad, if everything checks out to be what the seller claims.

Yeah....

It also is an out of state vehicle, which may mean it will need a lot for inspection, as I would intend to drive it daily....

I'd say more like 2,500.....longbed stepsides are far less desirable. Also, check to see if the rockers and such aren't bondo'ed over.

yeah,2500 sounds bout right for a long step w/6&3 on tree. At least round here, maybe less not in the rust belt. I got mine, which is pretty much the same, cept for short bed for 2800.

Thanks for the feedback. I know that folks usually go for the SWB models, and they're worth more than the LWB according to the price guides.

I actually prefer the LWB just for cargo room, but were it not for that consideration, I'd opt for a SWB.

Also, I'm not sure I like the fiberglass fenders. Aren't they prone to crack and/or "spidering"?

yes they are, if they are cheap. If the rear fenders were rusted enough to warrant new fiberglass pieces makes me wonder if there is any "quickie" fixes on the cab and front fenders. You probably already did so, but go back and look under her real good, and even pick up the rug on the floor, if you can. I paid 1400 for my rust free and running swb 67 with a 250 and 3 on the floor. that was back in 96 though........

Yeah, so I've heard and seen. I fully intend to have magnets and flashlights in-hand, and I'll be climbing all over the thing like a monkey checking for bondo and/or rust-thru.

I already know that parts to redo the wooden bed are a few hundred, oh yeah, and he said that two cab mounts are bad too.

Back in the day I had facilities and tools to do ALL the work it may need, but I'm wondering about the cost to fix the cab mounts first.

Thanks....
