connecting engine to hoist
I was wondering how to connect the engine to the hoist, I didn't buy a lift plate, I have a load leveler. So I need to connect the chains in four places, It looked like there was a hole in the top of each head that might make a good place, so I thought I could just buy some bolts and stick them in there to lift the engine. Will that work or is there a better way?

I would unbolt the 4 corner intake manifold bolts.

I've done it with just two bolts on opposite sides of the intake. One in the front and the other in the back on the other side.

I have also done it like ChevyDude.
The pic is from when I reinstalled the engine and transmission in my 1980 Camaro Z28 last winter.

Load levelers are great to use, better when putting back in as well.

I use the end intake manifold bolt holes with the load-leveler. I use 4 grade-5 bolts that are 1/2" or so longer than the intake bolts, through the end links of the chain, using washers between the bolt heads & chain links.

I use to do it by both those methods, then built a plate to bolt on the carb studs. No more problems, and not broken bolts.
