I like shortbeds myself, but when I want to haul longer stuff I wish I had a longbed, but I used to own a 2wd longbed and the shortbed truck turns better and is a little easier to drive around town, and my quad still fits in the back long as the toolbox isn't in the back, then I have to leave the tailgate down.

well i won't use it for a truck, mainly just a fun haulin' a$$ truck, the only thing i ever haul in my truck is my tuba, and that can fit in an 88 firebird, so no biggy. im leaning more on short because of better weight transfer, distribution and such. its going to be a street/strip truck basicall, ocasional trailer(once a year maybe), and never offroad so defiently a 2wd.

Just my opinion, but I think 2wd's look best if they are short bed fleetsides. If your wanting a 4wd I like the look of a lifted long bed fleet.....

Yeah, find a 81-87 Short Fleet and have fun with her. These things are easier to mod than anything
Slam it and stap some go fast goodies in and you'll be happy for a long while.

nah, id rather get a stocker and do what ever i feel like doing, and my go fast goodies would be my drive line, should be able to drop half a second off or so from going from a long to short, that would mean instead of a 14.3 i would get a 13.8, with a Q-jet too, maybe i can get a 12 second run out of her...

short fleet 2wd is definitely what you want. i think your hopes of shaving 1/2 second by just changing wheelbases is a bit optimistic however.

i think i have to go against the grain here and no offense to anyone in particular but i say go with a longbed-if you want a 1/2 ton,3/4 or 1 ton thats up to you-ive seen all 3 load ratings that were nice and some that werent.shortbeds have there place and purpose and ill admit some are nice-i saw a shortbed K10 the other day i would have given my left one for just to give an example-but generally i prefer longbeds.im weird i guess but i at times get sick of hearing shortbed this shortbed that, you should have bought a shortbed blah blah etc etc-i have a longbed so i hear it quite a bit.i did have a shortbed once and ive had 4 longbed trucks and as far as the parking thing goes i always felt they parked about the same.sure you can get a shortbed in a tighter spot thats the only difference ive ever noticed.just my thoughts

I've seen a few non-running short beds (no engine, trans, whatever) for sale for the same ammount as complete running long beds. They were all between 78-81's, and in the fairly same condition body wise. It just seems a waste of money to spend an extra $1000 or so on a short bed. It's like buying a 72 down chevy. People know they're wanted, and jack the price up.

IMO, long beds look best when they are aired out and laying rocker. am i ever going to do this? nope, and if i do it will be on a show only truck. The truck is going to be a street/strip brusier. the more i think about it the better a short 1/2 seems, and it will probally be a fleet. maybe on my next truck build ill get a long box and air it out. but who knows what tomorrow will bring. thanks for all the input
