new member seeks help/advice
hello, I just bought a 76 GMC stepside truck. Got it from the 2nd owner, has 118k on the odometer. Truck is in very good shape, paint is faded, has ralleys and dual exhaust. I want to put a good receiver hitch on it that doesnt hang down low, and I was hoping you guys on here could give me pics on a 3-4 drop and a 4-6 drop and what tire size to run so when I get the thing lowered I do it once.

Here's a 5/5 DJM Drop, although others on here have 5" front drop and it's more dramatic, but I'm happy with mine. I used DJM Springs/Spindles, along with a DJM Flip Kit in the back. I'm running 255/55 17's

Welcome to the board from SW Washington State....
You might try a hidden receiver hitch.....goes between the frame rails with access under the license..

thanks guys, Im looking into droppin the truck 3 and 5, I just put on 265/50-15s in front and 295/50-15's in the rear. I saw a truck today that was 4 and 6 and I didn't like the fact that the rear end was riding on the snubber. I may do 4 in the front, I would like to do the back without flipping the rear.

For the amount of work involved I would put a flip kit and spindles on your stepper. I have an 84 SWB stepper with a flip kit and spindles. I have 255/70/15 on the rear and 225/60/15 on the front. I used a DJM flip kit and Belltech spindles. I tried drop shackles, the installation was simple, but you really had to look to see the drop. You would probably have to pull the bed and drop the tank to get access to replace the hangers. The flip kit can be accomplished without pulling the bed or tank. On mine, I removed the rear bump stops and brackets and used poly bumpstops from the local auto parts store to get axle clearance back. I use my truck for trips to the lumberyard, hauling trash, etc. I dont' have a c-notch, and after nearly a year of driving the truck there have been no issues of bottoming out. The only problems have been this week with 10-12" of snow on the ground. I have gotten stuck a few times because of no gound clearance and no weight in the rear. |

well Im not sure about the flip kit. Im gonna use my truck for hauling motors, parts, etc and also tow my 3200 street/race car. I had a 97 dually that was flipped and I had air bags on it and it hit the frame all the time. To get the desired look I want Im probably gonna have to remove a couple of leafs from the the HD spring pack and I was gonna get the 2.5" spindle and either cut 1/2 coil out of my spring or get 2" drop springs. I want to be able to get it as low as I can and still use it without having to put air bags or add a leafs.
