tansmission?
can you change out the tailshafts on a trans say i have a long tail turbo 350 but i need the the short tail off of the old one can i just swap them out and put the good transmission in the truck or do i have to find an actual short tail tranny. thanks for any help guys

IIRC, you need the main shaft out of the tranny too...totall disassembly.

you can swap them, but you will need to completely "gut ' both trannys to do the job. The tailshaft is the 1st pc to go into the case!. just a thought.....you might think about a shorten & balance on the D shaft. Good luck,crazyL

A local trans guy quoted me $75 for a gut swap if I had all the parts, but that was a couple of years ago. The 9"-tail stuff is not real easy to find compared to the short stuff, so your old stuff might be worth salting away for later.
