Step fender installation
About to install my rear step fenders after they and bed have been painted. Is there some kind of tape or padding that fits between the fender and the bed side to protect or prevent water from sitting in there? I thought I read about a 3M product or something but I can't find it on the board. Again, we're already painted, so I can't use anything that needs painting.
thanks, Ryan |

You should be able to get fender welting from any of the board venders.

Yes what Randy said. Its cheap and works real well keeping the fenders away from the bedsides when attached. I used paper clips to hold it in place to get the holes in it in the right places, then you have to keep it pushed down when you are tightening the fender bolts.

I bought mine from chevyduty and it came in a roll. I think it was less than $10 for the roll, but shipping ain't cheap! Because it was in a roll it didn't fit too well on the fenders. I used weatherstripping adhesive and several pairs of vice grips and clamps and worked my way around the fender until it fit the shape of the fender. I then had to cut out my bolt holes with a roofing knife. It's cool stuff because it keeps metal from touching metal. I don't think these trucks originally came with this stuff??? Mudder67, who sells the stuff with the holes that fits the fenders??

The old cloth based welting held moisture--the 3-M caulking might work. The General used nothing

This worked for me , where any painted areas met I coated one side with NAPA Roll on bed liner with a small brush , let it dry & bolted every thing togeather. no chips or scratchesif when I had to move the pannels .
