Question for the 73-87 enthusiast/collector

As some of you may already know, I have been trying to get some information from GM pertaining to the 73-87 GM truck line for 73-87.com as well as myself (see this thread for more information). To make a long story short, one of the five things I asked for was some copies of 73-87 GM truck commercials that would have played on TV during the 73-87 model run.

Well, I got a call back last week and finally made voice contact today. The lady on the phone told me there was a $50/hr research fee to screen the tapes for the requested commercials, and once they find them, it is just over $1 to copy them to VHS (per tape). She told me that the fee had to be pre-paid and that I could pre-pay for any length of time I requested.

I really would like to get a few commercials, but I can't see (or afford) spending $50+ for them.

So I started thinking (scary, I know). If we could get a small group of people together here that are interested in doing this, it would be pretty inexpensive to do this.

Soo, would anyone here like to go in on this with me? So far both Chris (Captkaos) and I are interested, but if we got a couple/few others it would work out to be pretty inexpensive and more attainable. If this works out, once the tape makes it's way to my house I could make the copies and mail them out to all participating parties (possibly on DVD too). I am not asking for a specific dollar amount just yet..but the more people we get to do this the cheaper it will be or the longer research time we get.

Please reply here if you are interested.

Thanks!

BTW - If any 67-72 folks are reading this, and are interested, I can do the same for you (67-72 wise).

I'm interested. I don't know how much monetary support I could offer right now, but I could definitely help some.

OK, so far there is seven of us that are interested in this...awesome!!

I would ideally like to get two hours of research time, just because I have no idea how hard it will be to find this stuff...and I don't want to get stuck with only one commercial/video or something like that.

If everyone is cool with donating $15, I will go ahead and have them charge me for two hours of time plus one VHS copy. I will then make my own copies and ship them out to each of you once I get them. I think the easiest way would be via PAYPAL, otherwise payment via snail mail works for me too. My PAYPAL ID is jeffdodge4827@msn.com

Please remember, I cannot guarantee anything as far as what they will find, we could get real lucky and get a bunch, or we could get one or two things only.

I will be calling sometime tomorrow (Tuesday), if anyone still wants to get in on this that hasn't already said so, just reply here. Any extra money I receive on top of what GM charges me I will donate to the board.

Thanks everybody!

BTW - Mike, nice to see you back on the board, I was wondering if you nailed your foot to the new deck and were stuck.

Jeff,

PM me your mailing address. I closed my paypal account sometime back.

I've been on the boards about every day but just not posting much. I sort of lost interest in the whole truck thing for awhile and started ripping and burning DVD's.

To tell the truth, I've been real busy lately and not much time for trucks. A new job is taking a big chunk of the time I do have and what's left I don't feel like messing with trucks, along with remodeling the house. I'll get back into the swing of things again though.

Anyway, let me know and I'll send you a check.

Mike, PM sent.

David, received notification from PAYPAL, funds will clear in 3-4 days.

Axle, got your E-mail.

G, I can get photographs and pictures free of charge, it is the videos I have to pay extra for. GM already sent me 32 pics, but they are all of 73 and pre-73 concept pictures. I wasn't too specific on what I wanted, I did say "73-87"...but that is all I got. For now.

Russ and Joe, thanks for the payment.

1972C10, I am not going to ask for model specific information, mainly because I don't want them to spend too much time (and our money) looking for one model, when they can be doing a general search for ALL 73-87 models. Does this make sense? I just think we can get more info if our search isn't too narrowed down.

So far 5 people have paid (counting me), and we have $85 so far.

I will not be ordering this "research" until January 3rd, mainly because some payments still need to clear my PAYPAL account and/or arrive at my house, and others have yet to pay. It just gives us a little more time to get our plan of attack together.

Thanks everyone, and reply here or PM me if you have any questions.

Jeff please PM me your address so I can send you a money order. I'd love to see the trucks commercials especially with the Bob Seger's "Like A Rock" theme song.

WoW everybody, this is great! So far I have received payment from 10 people reaching past the two hour goal, and almost enough for three hours of research time...which I think will be more than enough. Here are the people who have paid so far (just to make sure I have my records straight)...

Eddie, Chris, Steven, Mike W, Joe, Russ, Mike E, David, Jeremy & Axle

Brandon and Eric are making payment shortly based on what they told me...putting us just over three hours (if each pays $15) and allowing enough $$ to get these copied and mailed out to each of you. If any of you won't be able to participate, just let me know asap.

Thanks again everyone, and I will be calling on 1/3/5 to start the "researching" process.
