Success, she LIVES again!!

Was a bigger pain than we hoped for, but got the HEI put into the 70 today. had to spend several hours cleaning/replacing fuel lines/filters and all. The line was clogged/varished solid in 3 or 4 places. I'm not sure the gas would have even burned had it made it to the carb. Got it flushed out and new gas in and she roared to life (as much as a 6 can) Man does it run smooth.

Many thanks to EdB and our friend Robert. It is wonderful to have friends that will spend their afternoon helping me clear out my crap.

I was also able scrape off the paint and undercoating on one side of the bed. Slowly but surely it is starting to come together, but she RUNS .... and moves too.

Think I'll hose off about a years worth of dust and residue tomorrow she deserves it.

Bill, when I joined here didn't you just have a little car port outside to work on your stuff under? The shop looks new.

Yeah TX, I still have the carport on the old shed, but I just built the shop between May and August of this year. It is soooooo nice to have it to work in. According to EdB today, the only thing it lacks at the moment is a coffee pot.

Bill, no fair having a shop door open in december, no snow, and rubbing it in. congrats on ignition of the 6. I see you removed Hurricane Ivan's grille also. What are you using to remove the bed paint with? elbow grease or chemicals?

Robert wright....At the moment just a scraper and elbow grease, lots of it. Once I get all this flakey paint off, I'll sand everything down before I prime it.

Oh yeah...December 30, 72F degrees today. Gotta love the south!

The HEI is a good upgrade. My truck ran MUCH better after installing it.

Great to hear ya got it goin' Bill. I'm bettin' a little lost truck time isn't bothering you that much, since it resulted in a nice shop to spend future truck time, lol. Make that QUALITY TRUCK TIME IN THE NEW SHOP, LOL! Congrats, and keep that camera clickin'!

Bill, what year HEI and what is it out of? I think my HEI on my 70 6 cyl needs some help, and I'm just looking for a suggestion. Would an HEI off any 6 cyl truck work (as long as it's not computer controlled)? BTW congrats on getting it running again. Sounds like you went through about what I did to get mine running after having sat for 5 years. I bet mine was more varnished than yours!

that first picture sure brings back some memories but my 6 never had HEI or all 6 cylinders firing

70 Shorty I believe it came out of an 82 Chevy truck. I'm told they are all the same except for the computer controled ones, which I don't think they had for the inline 6.

6's can rock man.. Back in the 70's-early 80's a guy from my home town had a mustang with a straight six in it. He built v-8s like crazy for other people, but his own racecar had a 6 .( h-modified production back then) why? Just to show people you can make a six go fast. It was great advertising for his engine building buisiness.
