tail light troubles

My drivers side taillight used to go out once in a while and then it would just start working again at random. Now it's gone out completly and was hoping to know if there is a common place for wires to short, or the best route to narrowing down the problem. Thanks

Oh and yes I did try a new bulb

I would check the wiring at the back of the socket first, usually where the soldering or splicing is done is where a connection goes bad first.

Adam,
That's how the back of my truck's wiring used to look. It's not hard to figure out once you figure out which wires are your +'s, one side of that plug goes TO the tailights, the other side comes from the cab, via the driver side framerail.

So can I just bypass that plug?

Man do I know what you're feeling Adam. Its not wiring but sheetmetal. The PO (my older but not so wiser brother) decided the best place to run the coax cable for the CB antenna was to drill a hole right through the top of the cab through both sections! Just let me say that it looks great (NOT). Thats going to be a fun fix when the time comes.
