First of all I would like to say hello to every one.

This will be my first posting and i was wondering a couple of think about chevy trucks. first of all im current owner of a 1972 chevy custom 10 long bed fleetside.
well i need to find out what the exact size of a long bed and a shot bed frame is. Nd find out exactly where they differ .thank you verry much.

From center of the front wheel to center of back wheel.....(wheelbase)

short bed chassis will be 115 inches
long bed chassis will be 129 inches

i was wanting to cut my trucks frame and make a custom rear part of the frameand while doing this the costom part to be 12" shorter before the rear tire.and add a custom two link like the one that is sold by if customs.here are some examples of what i whant to do.

can the 12" shortning be done right behind the cab or does it really need to be under the cab. keeping in mind that there will be a custom 2 link suspension added.

i talked to a guy that shortened a 72 long bed and he told me that a short bed will bolt on to a long bed frame and then all you have to do is cut out in between the cab and behind the bed.

Depending on where you are located it could be really easy to get a shortbed frame and use it. The stock trailing bars can go very low, especially if you put the bags on top of the axle, or on the inside of the frame rail. This seems like the most economical way to me. and it saves time.
