Wheel Covers

Did 4x4's originally have wheel covers covering up the lock outs or were the lock outs always visible? Had heard that some 4x4's had wheel covers and was trying to verify. There is a man who lives close to me and has several 67-72 trucks in his pasture and can't see any lockouts from the road but was wondering if some 4x4's did have wheel covers that maybe one of these trucks is a 4x4.

4wds were available with wheel covers. All would have holes in front to allow access to lock-outs.Lock-outs were an option.W/o lock-out,hubs had smooth covers, still visible through wheel cover, but maybe hard to detect from distance.

are you sure you arent referrin to full time 4x4 trucks? my '79 K20 had an NP203 in it, and drive slugs up front with chrome "baby moon" style caps where the lockouts would be.

The earlier front ends w/o lock-out option had slugs also. Most owners ended-up installing lock-outs at some point.
