where to put battery
I have a 2 post lift & the battery holder att to the frame prevents me from using the lift.
Should I put the battery on the firewall or behind the seat? Will there be a problem w/fumes with it in the cab? .......Don Last edited by Don Meyer; 01-06-2005 at 07:18 AM. Reason: add picture |

If you are moving the battery id go with putting it on the firewall. Be much safer IMO. Fumes would be in the cab...im sure not that bad but still could be a safety hazzard. Very interesting truck btw.

I'm with TooMany2count. I definitely would not put it in the cab.

well IF ya can find a place it will work. but WHY??? unless ya just got to have it in there. you could also make a box & put it inside the rear/bottom part of the front fender hanging off the frame. Personally i dont like them inside, even if it is a sealed battery, IT just takes up space.
BUT hey don if ya can find a place & ur happy w/it go 4 it....joe

Even sealed batteries have vents. The vents will emit fumes.
Fumes are bad for ya.

Cool.
You can install 'em sideways if you want, too! I had to enlarge my battery holder (on the frame) to put one in, but I'm glad to have one. I bought the Red Top Optima. |

well you are correct YET you are also wrong. from the Optima Battery site http://www.1st-optima-batteries.com/battery_specs_1.asp The D31A Yellow Top will not off-gas in normal operation, but for complete safety in enclosed spaces its overpressure vent will accept a remote venting tube. SOOOOO it could possible happen, but the likely hood is slim. my own advice is IF you install it inside VENT it, better safe then sorry....joe

hell i wasnt paying attenion that horvath bought a RED top battery. so once againg from the site & ain't it amazing what a person can find on the internet.
http://www.1st-optima-batteries.com/...tery.aspOptima batteries will operate without leakage when mounted in any position, and they do not off-gas in normal (<~~read this) operation. That means that corrosion at the battery cable connections and elsewhere under the hood (<~~once again read) which is normally caused by drifting acid fumes, is eliminated. what concerns me is WHAT determines NORMAL once again if it was ME & the battery was INSIDE the truck, i would at least make sure the battery box is completely sealed & is vented to the outside................ it's call Cheap Insurance ....joe

Thanksfor all the suggestions. I have decided to place the battery in the bed.I'll made a ss box & cut a opening in the floor of the bed & lower the battery as low as I can....just below the floor if possigle.
For the gentleman who asked what front end I'm using.....it's a 1986 buick regal(same as a malibu. Don |
