Take a look......I need advice

There is a local 1968 Chevrolet swb with a 70 chevelle 350/350 2wd he is asking 1,800 it is army green and primer green, interior shot, rusty and dented. how much is it worth?

I am looking for a swb or a 4x4 in South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, or a pickup with free shipping to south dakota. Show me some pickups. I got $3,000 and am looking to make my self a nice daily driver to school.

Check with 68c15 and make sure that is not the one he looked at last week. He looked at a 68 in or around Sioux Falls that had a lot of hidden problems. Send him a PM to see if it's the same truck.
If it is not the same one I would think it should be worth $1,000. Without pictures it is really hard to tell. It could be worth considerably more or less.

I might consider selling my truck for $3000. I have over $4000 in it. Picture attached. He is right about the rust. I just paid $600 for new inner and outer rocker and cab supports on the passenger side. Picture attached.

Nice pickup long ways away

What should a paint job cost? A friend of mines dad charges $700 to $900.
Is there any newer rims that will bolt on?

I still dont have a pickup.

$700 - $900 is a good price. Is that with prep, dent repair, etc?
You have a huge selection for rims. You shouldn't have any problems there. If you are asking about newer GM rims you can use the rallies from 1986 and older 4x4's. That is a popular mod. The trucks newer than 86 have different backspacing and the center hole is smaller as well.
For 2wd's you have a ton of factory choices from newer GM's.

Check the cab supports, they rust out commonly.
Look at the frame, make sure it wasn't shortened from a long frame.
The rockers and cab corners of course.
Look the windshield frame over real well, sometimes the seal leaks and it can rust down in the windshield channel.
Things like engine, brakes, interior, etc can be fixed without too much heartache. It's the body work that can get you. Take a magnet along and check for bondo. You don't want any surprises turning up after you paint it.
What do you plan to do with the truck? Do you want to restore it to original? Do you want to fix it up as a driver, and don't really care about originality?
You could always take some pictures and post them on the board, the members here will rip the truck apart, if it makes it through that you know you should buy it

I might go take some picutres shine the head lights on it and take a pic quick. I want to make it a daily driver. Its already not orginal engine so it cant be kept orginal. I want a good school vehical that will hold some value!

Looks like it may need a new windshield also. It looks cracked in the photo. Just from what you listed that it needs, that is easily $500! Doesn't look like an $1800 truck to me...maybe in the $800-$1000 range, considering its condition. Just my $.02.

I would not offer $1400.00!!!! Start at $700 and do not go over $1000. There is much to be repaired on that truck and it will get costly depending on how far you go at it. There are better SWB's for $1800.00. JMO.

Alot of that stuff you can get used and save a ton of money...if you are just building a daily driver. If you were showing it, then I would suggest new parts, but you can get by a little cheaper than $1800 for the parts you listed! Also, as mentioned before...for the same price, if you look around you will find a better condition truck that requires a little less work than the one you are looking at. It just takes time and patience, unless you have the money to spend....which most of us don't!! Anyway, good luck with what ever decision you make.

Don't do what I did, spend $1500 on a truck that turned out to be a HUGE POS, I've had to toss most of the body due to hidden rust, the frame has a crack in it, not to mention the rust on it, most of the truck wasn't worth a sh!t, I wish I'd listened and spent a little more in the beginning to get a more solid truck, and not jumped on the one I bought. Look at the parts board find a solid base to start, plus it gives you more time to save some cash for a abetter truck, you'll be ahead of the game, and not looking at a POS that's apart in the garage

I dont know what to look for

I looked it over againt today. U can see threw the floor on both sides??? The frame doesnt look bad, could use new paint. cab corner and rockers only surface rust. There is some metal coming from the frame to like the cab corner back there that is rusted out.
I would love to have a swb pickup. I dont know if this one is worth fixing.

The metal that you are talking about here is one of the cab supports. There are 4 under the cab. It is fairly common for them to rust out and a lot of people do replace them.

With the floors and the cab support rusted I find it hard to believe that the rockers aren't rusted. A previous owner may have replaced them but they likely would have replaced the floor and cab support at the same time. Check the rockers over real well, there may be bondo back there.
