How can I clean a steering wheel? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have a steering wheel that was took off my 71 Chevy C-10 back in 1995 when I bought the truck. Its been stored in a box since then and every time we move my wife tries to get me to throw it away.

Well I was surfing Ebay the other day and decided to check these out and now she's glad I never threw it away.

Anyhow it had one of those leather wraps around it and I took that off. The wheel looks like its in very very good shape. No cracks that I can see as of yet. But it does need a good cleaning before I put it on Ebay to sell.

Whats good to use to clean these old steering wheels? And anyone got an idea what it might bring. Like I said its a 71 Chevy C-10 steering wheel in very good shape.

The safest and best stuff is to use a none abrasive hand cleaner. The cheapest stuff is usually best. Just take a scoop, rub it all over the wheel with towel, wipe off. Tons of dirt and build comes right off!

Thanks, I never thought of that. I was thinking either Windex or Dawn dishwashing soap. But didnt think the Windex would do a very good job. Ill give the hand cleaner a try.

I put them in a clean plastic oil pan with some dawn dishwashing soap, let them sit for a couple hours, and wella, the grime sprays right off with your gardening hose

BTW....... these original wheels will rise in value, once people start relizing that the repop wheels turn grey after a year, because the new wheels dont have the same ultraviolet ray inhibitors injected into them like the originals

You can also use 409, simple green or one of the other liquids. Since the wheel is off the truck the Dawn detergent will work, too. Whatever you use, rinse it good after you're through.

Oh yeah, any revues would be ok. I wanted to list in 2 catagories but couldnt figure that out. Maybe with Ebay motors you can only list one catagory, I dont know.
