I have some more hei questions

sry for asking so many questions but this is the 1st time i have ever done any type of dist. work. my engine is still pinging (just inital timing) and that means that the timing is too far advanced. so in order to fix this i need to retard the timing. to retard the timing i need to turn the dist clockwise? what if it wont turn anyfurther clockwise? if i am on the right track so far, i take it that i need to get a recurve kit and do i put heavier springs on or lighter springs on? and do i need to do anything with the weights?

(on a side note I am pretty sure the pinging is from the timing and not the fuel as i run premium/super (92 octane) fuel.and the motor seem to be running pretty smooth except the pinging problem and it seeming like there is less bottom end)

What do you mean that it won't turn any further? Plug wires stopping you or the vac canisiter hitting. You will probably have to pull the dizzy out one more time and rotate it counterclockwise a couple of three teeth and reset. That way you can get it to rotate a little further. Go a head and get the recurve kit, its a cheap tuning tool. I would get a adjustable vac can too. Can't tell you what springs or weights to use, don't know your needs or driving habits. I use one of the lightest and one of the next to the lightest on mine with the weights that came with the kit. I also run the 93 octane.

You can rotate the plug wires clockwise, then turn it counterclockwise to get the timing right.... no need to pull the dist

yeah the vac canister is hitting. good idea on the moving the wires, dont know why i didnt think about that. i will try that and see if it works.

i already have the ajustable vac canister, its plugged off at the moment while i am trying to get the intitial timing set right.
