U bolts how tight
Question1- I just instaled new U bolts on rear en how tight should it be?
Question2- bottom of nut is flush with end of u bolt is that ok? |

#1 While i am sure there is an actual torque reading, If you have a quality 1/2 inch drive impact, that should be enough. Some lock tight is a good idea too.
#2, that is the minimum that you would want...but it is perfectly fine. |

I think it was somewhere around 110 ft-lbs on the ones I used on the 65 last summer. It'll be close to that, give or take 10 ft-lbs.

5/8'' u-bolts ---150lbs, 9/16'' bolts 110lbs. I did a small block lift on my 4x tow truck in the rear. The guy that bent the bolts for me told me 180. But the bolts were 14'' long.

Crank on them with a breaker bar. You ain't going to break them and you ain't going to over tighten them by hand either. Pound on the u-bolt as you tighten them down.

after you drive it for a while.retighten the u-bolts because they will strech a little.I drive the truck for 100-150 miles and retighten them.

I have a 4x4 so they take more of a beating but I tightened mine every few months after I put the rear end in. The factory service manual has the spec in the back.
