where is the axle code for a 66 ?

i have two 66's and need to find the axle code on them ...any help would be appriciated ...thanks dk

how large are the letters? i have looked at both axles and wire brushed and cleaned them , are they near the pumpkin or the drum ? any other help ????? thanks in advance .dk

front

does your brake line run on the backside of the axle toward the rear bumper ? thanks ......dk

Ok, so I have to ask. What's the axle code going to tell you when you find it?

pop the cover the ratio is stamped into the ring gear it should say Gm and then 11:41 or sumthin and that a 3:73 which it most likely is

If the ratio is what you're trying to find, just jack up one wheel, mark it and also mark the driveshaft, then turn the wheel two full revolutions and count the driveshaft revolutions. If the rear end happens to be positive traction then you have to turn both wheels one even revolution. The total number of driveshaft revolutions gives you the ratio; ie 3.5 turns would be a 3.50:1, etc.
