4-speed differences
Is there any differences between a sm-465 out of a 2 wheel drive truck opposed to one out of a 4x4?

yes, the output on a 4x4 model will have a short 10 spline(older models) output, or a longer 32? spline (newer models) and an 8 i think bolt pattern adapter mounting pattern for the TC adapter. the 4x2 models will have an output with a yoke on it for mounting to the driveshaft.

Thanks guys.
When did it change from the short 10 spline to the longer 32?

it changed to the long 32 spline the year the NP208 transfer case was introduced. '80 or '81, iirc. However this was only in the K10 and K20. The K30 kept the 10 spline til '85, when it got the long 32 spline, and a 32 spline NP205.
