Ignition key barrel removal
Did not get the key with my '69 cab and trying to pull the key lock barrel to replace it. I am using my '67 key and it does not work with the paper clip. Do you need to get to the Acc position in the later models? '67 barrel removed with no problem. Can I use the '67 key barrel in the '69 if and when I do get it out?
Thanks

On my ignition I used a combination of parts from a 67 gm, a 70 chev, and a barrel from a 77 van. They're all pretty interchangagble.. The paper clip thing usually works. On one of mine, I used a small piece of steel wire ( teh type for hanging suspended cielings,,small, but stronger than paper clips) maybe your just not swearing enough. Those things can be a real B***h to get out sometimes. I think on later trucks the acc position is the way to go. By the time I get those things apart I'm usually in such a lather I don't know what position the key was in.

if you don't have the correct key, and can't turn the ignition switch to the ACC position, then you'll have to go by the above link to my FAQ thread.

That's what I thought about the '69 and later...that they have to be in the ACC position. I was going to use my '67 in the '69 switch but realized that I probably could not make it work. I spent 30 minutes trying to pick the darned thing and am now going to drill it and order a new set of barrels and keys.

Just went through the same thing with my 69---I removed the whole lock by unscrewing the face plate from the entire cylinder-takes about 12-15 turns -------in my area 3 parts stores carried the new lock and cylinder it fits into for under $20.00--------if you are unsure about how to do this-----go to the parts store and get the new ones---------very simple operation and you can buy a new dash side --face--- from several suppliers for about $5-------easy and cheap-Good luck----------OH-for those needing door locks--we have farm and fleet and Fleet farm stores here-they sell new door locks with keys for under $10 (with new keepers also)-Great site guys------a real great group of truck guys here.
