need help with a ford(sorry)
my driver right now is a 81 bronco, but just until i get my sub going. but i need some advice on the wiring. i have put a new alternator, new battery, and a new voltage regulater on it. the problem is the alternator will not charge the battery. i just got the alternator tested and it is putting out 15 volts. when it is in the bronco it is only putting out 11.50 volts. what else could be the problem? im real close to fixing it with a rag in the gas tank and setting the rag on fire.thanks

Switch the 2 wires that push on the rear of the alt. That should do it. Common problem with a motorola alt and of course F*rd.

Check the fusible links off of the solenoid.

72 Custom Camper is on the right track, LMFAO though. It sounds like its grounding out some where probably beacause its a fo*d, no it is probably just grounding out somewhere. Check the wires to make sure they are not frayed and make sure you have the alternator belt tight.

Take a second look at that voltage regulator if all else fails, I used to work
at a parts house, those things were good for all sorts of problems. They will commonly stick causing you to have a dead short ( constant drain on the battery)....Good luck mike |

Also check the condition of the wireing, look for any crushed or rubbed threw spots that might have cause the wire to corrode, I had this happen a couple of times.

those old trucks are a fire waiting to happen as far as wiring goes. start tracing wires and looking for burnt spots or melted spots. also while your at it with the wiring nightmare take apart the bulkhead connector between the under hood and under dash unit and make sure none of the connections there are fried. dont be surprised to see a melted bunch of plastic and wires

I agree. Put the rag in the tank and light it.
