? for you Transmission Guys

My 350 torque converter would not bolt up to my 454 flexplate so I drilled new holes.

My Question is

Can I put a 400 torque converter in a 350 trans so it will bolt right up ???
If so would there be a differance in stall speed, Good or Bad??/

Yes you can install a TH400 converter into a TH350, that is how I hooked up a TH350 to my caddy big block.
As for stall...I've been told by some, that it would increase stall...and by others that it would DEcrease stall....NFC, I know it moves, and doesn't do anything stupid.
I would highly consider getting another 454 flexplate. Really isn't a good idea puttin holes in there.

Thats why I'm askin, I didnt like drilling the holes either but it was right at the time if you know what I mean. I really like to know what if any differance there is in the Stall. The engines coming back out for another reason and I'd like to do it right.

If there is, I highly boubt it's noticable. Like I said, mine feels right. A stock converter, and it feels...stock. When i floor it, it flashes a little stall, but it'll idle across the parking lot no problem.

A th400 converter will be fine I ran one on my th350 in my k5. as for stall a converter will stall at a lower rpm with a sb than a bb. find your self a Trans Star store. they are who the trans guys get their parts from.

hi guys I was just reading your thread and unless you know your holes
are dead even your going to get a vibration which will do all kinds of bad
things. so I'd get that out a.s.a.p.
tork coverters stall at what ever r.p.m they were made at, stocks are like
1000 to 1200 r.p.m or so.I wouldn't swear to this but most start to roll just off idle. Now you can always buy a true stall coverter from sumit or jegs
but don't go to high into the r.p.m's because if your town cops are like the
ones here in wellington ohio just going down the street will get you a ticket!
A friend of mine has a pro street nova with a 3000 r.p.m stall(more strip than street) and ever time it shifts it churps the tires. hope this helps if not, oh well.

Stall speed

Stall speed on any tourgue converter is strictly a function of the tourque put into the converter. standard converters (stock) are designed to stall at about 1000 to 1200 rpm behind a stock engine. Higher stall converters are designed to move the stall speed up in rpm range as more tourque is applied to the converter. This allows you to take better advantage of the "fat" part of the engines tourque curve, which will result in better launchs.

Replace that drilled flex plate asap, you can get an sfi approved flexplate for under $50

Yup all cops are alike,I used to run a 9'" converter with a 350 turbo and 4.56 gears.Sounded like I was scalding the tires just to get the car moving.Got lots of tickets because of it.

As far as the stall of the 400 converter in a 350,you might get a couple hundered RPM,nothing to write home about, and if you have any power at all you prolly won't even notice it.
I do agree, swap that flexplate ASAP.better safe than sorry.
