V.I.N. question

Does anyone know what year GM started putting the VIN tag on the dash of trucks and suburbans?

My 77 C10 cab has the vin on the door jamb. An 81 I had earlier had it on the dash. You might ask ghitch, he has a 79 for sale on the parts board.
